What Does the Playground Come With?

This jungle gym comes with two towers, two slides, and a tunnel. The smaller tower has a swinging door, open windows, and a porthole kids can climb through. The taller tower has two levels, with a porthole to enter the bottom, and openings a kid can use to climb to the top.

The 2-foot-long tunnel connects the two towers, either on the top or bottom level, depending on the setup you choose. The two slides can be moved around. One slide measures 3 feet while the other is slightly longer at 4 feet. All of the parts are made out of heavy-duty and weather-resistant plastic.

What Exactly Makes the 8 in 1 Playground Adjustable?

The position of the tunnel and the slides can be moved around depending on which of the 8 different designs you’re building. The playset includes everything for assembly, so there’s no other parts or accessories to purchase. Rearranging the slides and tunnel is easy. To disassemble, all you need are a screwdriver, a block of wood, and a pair of safety glasses. There’s no hardware, so just snap the pieces in their new location to reassemble.

How to Put Together the Little Tikes 8 in 1 Playground

Admittedly, the instructions for assembling the Little Tikes 8 in 1 outdoor playset are a little complex. However, that’s mostly due to the number of parts. And, yes, you can set up this playset in 8 different ways.

Other than the constant confusion and debate between you and your partner about which design you’re after as you’re setting up the playground, assembling it is pretty straightforward, especially compared to other playgrounds. The only two things you may find helpful are 1) a rubber mallet, and 2) a partner.

Of course, some couples have a hard time assembling things together. Picture-based instructions may bring back terrible memories of building Ikea furniture. Your mileage may vary.

From there, it’s like building a giant 3-D puzzle. The two base structures don’t change from design to design, just the slide and tunnel locations, so just follow along with the instructions. Then, match up the pieces and push them together with the rubber mallet (or your hands).

Overall, most parents report that putting together the Little Tikes 8 in 1 playground in under an hour. Of course, give yourself plenty of time to avoid frustration–some parts are trickier than others to snap into place!

Check out this video of a couple assembling the play set for their daughter. Don’t worry, it’s sped up, so the video is just a little over a minute long. Be sure to check your volume before you hit play- there’s music in the background!

Are My Kids Too Big to Enjoy This Playset?

This playground is perfectly suited for lots of small kids playing on it at once. It can easily handle 6 kids at a time, as long as they each weigh less than 100 lbs. Some parents are skeptical about how long their kids will be interested in playing with this set, suggesting that the recommended age group is a little high.

Little Tikes suggests that the 8 in 1 playground is great for kids 24 months to 8 years old. But, a number of parents feel that their child will become bored with it by the time they’ve reached their 5th or 6th birthday. If longevity is a big concern, you may want to consider purchasing this treehouse swing set instead.

Even if you kids only use this playground for a few years, there are genuine health benefits to giving them a climbing and sliding landscape to explore at a young age. Plus, when your kids are a bit older and have mastered the art of climbing, they’ll be ready to take command of their own pirate ship or visit playgrounds like this dinosaur-themed park.

How Often Should I Clean the Playset?

With daily use, plastic playgrounds can start looking dirty. A few parents have found that pressure-washing with plain water once a year does the trick to keep their children’s play equipment looking new.

Mulching under and around the playset can keep it looking new, too, without the added hassle of dragging out the water hose. Of course, mulch can also be fun to throw, so you may find yourself needing to use a hand broom to clear off the various parts of the playground.

I Want to Install This Inside. Will the Little Tikes 8 in 1 Playground Fit?

Depending on where you’ll be placing the slides, the playset will take up an area that’s about 15-feet long and 4-feet wide. Be sure there’s plenty of space to move around the playground: Little Tikes recommends an extra 6 feet on each side. Whether you install this playset indoors or outside, you’ll need an area that’s 27 feet long and 16 feet wide. If you have high ceilings but less floor space, the tropical playground may be more suitable.

The top of the taller tower is about 5 1/2 feet tall, so you’ll also want to make sure there’s enough headroom if you install this indoors. In our case, no room in the house is big enough to fit this. Remember: It’s better to measure now than to have this set half built before you realize it’s not going to work.

Can I Pick Up this Playground at a Store?

Due to the weight and bulkiness of this playset, many retailers no longer carry it in-store. In the past, parents would rent a truck or unbox the playground right in the parking lot. They would then wedge each part into their large SUV, hopeful that they could make everything fit.

Little Tikes and Amazon both now offer it directly from their websites, but since it must be shipped by freight, the shipping charges are pretty expensive. Occasionally, you can find a seller on Amazon who is offering the Little Tikes 8 in 1 Playground with free shipping right to your door.

Consensus

The Little Tikes 8 in 1 Playground is a versatile playset that your kids will love for years. The reputation Little Tikes has for durability holds especially true with this outdoor playground. When your kids finally outgrow it, you can hang onto it for your future grandkids. Or, you can sell your used playset on Craigslist and use the proceeds to invest in a wooden playset that your older kids will enjoy.

How do you get the tunnel out to move it. We have been trying to get it out yet can not get it to pull out of the grooves. Is there a special thrick?

      Kristi,

Thank you so much for the comment. I apologize for the long delay in getting back to you–we’ve had a lot going on the last few months!

The tunnel segment is rotated into place by turning it clockwise. If you already have it installed and need to remove it, follow these steps:

      1. Disassemble the playground until you have one wall connected to the tunnel, with no other parts attached to this wall. The other side of the tunnel may still be attached to a fully built segment of the playground.
      2. Tilt the playground back, so that the single wall attached to the tunnel can be rotated without digging into the ground.
      3. Wrap your arms around the tunnel and rotate it counter-clockwise.
      4. Now you should have a segment with only two parts: the single wall and the tunnel. One person should grip the tunnel and rotate it clockwise. Another person should standon on the side with the wall and use a flathead screwdriver to help pop the piece loose.

To me, a visual is really helpful for this. Please check out the official Little Tikes assembly instructions. On page 3 of the PDF, the section on the right shows pictures of this process. Please don’t hesitate to reply to this comment or send us an email if you have any further questions!

Hi, we have a 8-in-1 slide set, however we somehow lost the yellow door. Do you know if I could get the replacement? My boy keeps asking about the door as he really liked playing with them. Thank you
